A Note from Pastor Paul & Karen
The Only Cure for After-Christmas Blues & a Happy New Year
We have enjoyed singing about the “Most Wonderful Time of the Year!” We enjoyed the celebrations although some were absent and the parties were different, if we were able to party at all. And now Christmas is over. The gifts have all been unwrapped, the Christmas dinner was served, the grandchildren have gone home (if they were able to come during a pandemic). We begin to clean up and take down the decorations and sometimes we get an empty feeling.
In the sudden quietness of an empty house, we may begin to feel lonely and strangely sad. The only joy that can satisfy our longings is Jesus! Not the baby in the manger in your nativity set, but for the real living Jesus Christ--the One who offers us fullness of joy, every-day joy, not just Christmas joy. Jesus said to His disciples before He went to the cross: "As my Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love…I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete" (John 15:9-11). We have been so busy that we may have forgotten to cuddle up to Jesus, to listen to His voice, to let Him speak to us. He's waiting for each of us right now. "Come near to Him, and He will come near to you" (James 4:8). He understands what we are longing for and He says, "Come unto me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your soul. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light" (Matt. 11:28-30).
Are any of you experiencing "withdrawal symptoms" after Christmas? We need to just stop what we are doing and come close to Him. Let His words satisfy your soul. He is the real Joy-Giver, and He will fill all the empty places and lonely feelings!
For the NEW YEAR, 2021, we are praying for you and asking the Lord to fill you with His JOY and PEACE in serving Him and being a light to our community and those we love. We are thankful for all that the Lord has accomplished in our hearts and through our church ministries during this difficult year and look forward with JOY and Expectation to what the Lord has in store for 2021. Continue on Gospel Baptist Church, loving Him, loving people, preaching, teaching and applying God’s Word to our hearts and then trusting God for the increase. HAPPEY NEW YEAR!
