Missionary

VBS supports missions! Each year at VBS, we take a special missions’ offering. Students are encouraged to bring their own money, ask for chores or ways to earn money, and work within their neighborhood or elsewhere to make money of their own to give to the missions’ offering. Our kids learn to give because they love the Lord AND because they love missions.

This year, the offering will support the 2011 Short-Term Missions’ Trip to Jamaica. For the past three years, we have sent a team from GBC to Montego Bay, Jamaica in support of the missionaries located there and to share the Gospel of Christ with the many lost and hurting people of Canterbury. The 2011 team will work to build relationships through house repairs and community cleanup while sharing the Gospel through Bible studies and clubs for kids and adults.

In addition to sharing a financial offering, students will be involved in another missions’ project this year at Hometown Nazareth VBS. While spending their own “shekel’s” in the Marketplace (each child will be given shekels to spend every night), students may “buy” a bag/backpack that they will decorate to be given to a needy child in the Canterbury District of Jamaica. These bags will be given and dedicated for the missions’ trip at the Celebration on Friday night of Vacation Bible School, and they will be distributed by the Short-Term Missions’ Team in the fall.

During our Celebration (Opening Assembly) at VBS, students will hear an exciting missionary story. The missionary story is designed to bring glory to God for the mighty ways in which He has worked, to challenge the child’s heart for the Gospel, and to burden the believer for missions! You will have to come back each night to hear what happens next…...
